I have had several experiences of Reiki helping people with Cancer in a very significant way, I write about it more with my dear friend Celia. However, its great to know mainstream Associations are also beginning to see Reiki's benefits. In a brochure from the Cancer League about the most common methods of complementary medicine is written:
Core Ideas:
“Reiki” means universal life force. People can absorb this energy and, through laying on of hands, pass it on to others. This means that Reiki belongs to the class of spiritual healing methods. An illness in the physical body manifests first as disturbances in the energy body. Such blockages handicap to a greater or lesser extent the universal life force. Through Reiki, such blockages can be affected and the energy can be made to flow again.
Methodology: Reiki is given by placing hands on the body. During a treatment, various energy centres (chakras) and flows (meridians) are balanced. The client lies first on their back, and then on their stomach. Such a treatment lasts an hour. There is also a short treatment of a quarter of an hour, during which the client sits. Lastly, Reiki can be learnt for daily self-treatments and for use in the circle of friends and family. Reiki can be used on the physical level (reduction of the symptoms of illnesses, especially pains) as well as spiritual levels (internal harmony, accompanying the dying). Reiki can also be used as a complement for cancer patients. Experience shows that Reiki is especially useful in the reduction of pain. In addition, a causal treatment can be considered, with the intention of removing the energy blockage that could lead to a reduction of the tumour. Reiki can and does not wish to replace standard medicine as a method of healing cancer.
Risks: At the beginning of the treatment, an increase of the symptoms of the illness may occur, for instance pain, similar to the effects of homeopathy. After one to two weeks these increases disappear.
